Bankruptcy Process and Life After Bankruptcy

Western Kentucky Lawyers For The Bankruptcy Process

Filing for bankruptcy can seem like a daunting task. Fortunately, the lawyers at Hopson & Parris have the knowledge and experience necessary to guide you through the process. We will review your options and steer you toward the best possible outcome.

Bankruptcy offers you the chance to start fresh, but first the first step is to meet with an attorney. In the initial meeting, you will disclose all relevant information to the attorney, including the issues and events that brought you here in the first place.

You may be required to attend counseling before documents can be filed with the court. Once filed, you will receive a notice of a court date wherein a meeting of creditors takes place. The meeting is conducted by the bankruptcy trustee.

If you are filing Chapter 7 bankruptcy, our lawyers will ensure that all agreements that you may have reached with creditors are written and filed with the court. Approximately 60 days after this meeting, you will be discharged of all of your debts.

If you are filing Chapter 13 bankruptcy, the process is similar. However at the meeting with creditors, the bankruptcy trustee will review how much you will have to pay on a monthly basis. Then, a judge will decide whether to approve the plan. If not, we will have to modify the plan.
